The Spanish Triathlon Federation, in hand with LEVERADE, will deliver digital trophies (NFT) at the Spanish Olympic Triathlon Championship.
The Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI), in collaboration with LEVERADE, will deliver digital trophies in NFT format at the Spanish Olympic Triathlon Championship that will be celebrated on August 27th in Banyoles, Girona.
For another year, Banyoles will be the center of the national triathlon and will receive the best triathletes coming from all over Spain to start the competition in this stunning location.
The event will have the presence of international sport referents such as David Castro, Kevin Tarek, Sara Pérez, Cecilia Santamaría, Natalia Hidalgo, Ángel Sánchez and Jordi García, among others.
The Championship program
Although the championship will start on Saturday, thanks to the FETRI and LEVERADE, fans will experience the atmosphere of this competition from Friday.
On Friday, at 5 pm, the Spanish company LEVERADE will be live on it’s YouTube channel with Natalia Hidalgo, David Castro and Jorge García, Director of Competitions at FETRI.
During the live broadcast they will discuss the most interesting aspects of the competition and the challenges that the athletes will be facing in the future.
The program will continue from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on FETRI’s Twitch channel and Twitter account, as a preview of the championship that will begin the following day.
Finally, the competition will be inaugurated on Saturday morning. The junior categories will be competing first, followed by the age group matches that will be played in the afternoon.
Banyoles, the host of the competition
Miquel Noguer, Mayor of Banyoles, shared how the Catalan city feels about hosting this event:
“We feel great satisfaction to be hosting again a top-level sport event like this (…)”.
“In 2009 Banyoles made a commitment to sporting events and the triathlon has given us the projection and recognition that the city deserved.”
“(…) year after year triathletes, technicians and clubs trust in Banyoles and emphasize that it is one of the best places in the world to practice triathlon, something that makes us feel very proud”.
Banyoles (Bañolas in Catalan) is a Spanish city, capital of the Pla de l’Estany region in the province of Girona, in the autonomous community of Catalonia.
Part of the territory is occupied by Lake Bañolas, the largest natural lake in the Iberian Peninsula.
It is important to mention that this city was the official sub venue of the 1992 Olympic Games in the rowing modality and the official venue of the World Rowing Championship in 2004.
FETRI & LEVERADE: A partnership towards the future of triathlon
FETRI is the first triathlon federation in the world to use blockchain technology to deliver trophies in digital format (NFT) to winning athletes, thanks to the agreement signed with LEVERADE.
An NFT (Non-Fungible Token) is a digital certificate of authenticity which is associated with a single digital file (an image, video, audio, text or compressed file) with a unique value.
NFTs have the particularity of not being copied under any circumstances and, thanks to blockchain technology, each of them can be traced in a completely transparent way to verify when it was created and by whom.
Each digital medal awarded by FETRI will have a certificate of authenticity and ownership recorded in the blockchain forever.
The president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation has remarked this innovative initiative in the new technologies area in which, once again, this entity is a trendsetter:
“As a federation that is always at the forefront of Spanish sport, we felt it was necessary to move forward with a project like the NFTs and virtual awards.
We wanted to be one of the first federations to give the winners of the national leagues a recognition in the virtual world (…)”
The agreement reached by FETRI and LEVERADE is a big step towards the future of triathlon and begins to demonstrate the utilities and possibilities of blockchain technology in the sports world.
